Condition Assessment
Material Testing Including Concrete Core, Soil Boring
& Water Penetration Tests at Lehman College Bronx,
NY for Dormitory Authority of State of NY (DASNYS):
AEG provided materials testing services, to assess existing conditions of
structural concrete, extent of spall/ concrete
deterioration, and possibly other deficiencies.
AEG's Scope of services includes:
- Concrete Core
- Perform ten concrete cores; four cores within the paver walkway and six
cores within the building. One core from each of the five locations will be
tested for compressive strength test and petrographic analysis per ASTM C-42 &
C-856.
- R-meter was used to locate rebar before coring.
- The areas of cores were prepared; this includes removing pavers and
providing scaffolding.
- The cores were being patched.
- Petrographic analysis includes water soluble chloride content; carbonation
water/cement ratio, air entrainment etc. were conducted.
- Test Boring
- Mobilize truck-mounted SPT drilling equipment to the project site.
- Client was responsible for identifying and locating any utilities in the
area of the boring.
- The boring was extend to a depth of approximately 25 to 35 feet below the
existing surface or prior refusal.
- Performed laboratory testing to evaluate the general engineering
characteristics of the site subsoil. This testing included grain size analysis,
plasticity testing, and soil moisture content test and bearing pressure.
- Prepared a geotechnical engineering report. This report included the result
of field exploration and laboratory analysis.
- Water Spray Testing and Infrared Photograph
- Spray water on the exterior wall surface in the area that was identified in
the RFP drawing for a period of four hours. AEG removed the stone block prior to
performing test.
- Infrared photos were taken in the interior during the water spray to
identify possible leaks.
- Prepare a letter report with our findings including images.
